Question / Help ADVICE ON PC SPECS PLEASE?

Hi guys,

I am currently in the process of looking to buy a new pc to stream my xbox one gameplay off. I currently stream from a MacBook Pro however it struggles with CPU and its GPU is weak therefore I am upgrading. I want to run streams at a good quality. I have fast internet so I need a good pc to go along with that.

this is what I am thinking of upgrading too, please let me know if I should be changing out any parts as this is my first pc.
  • Intel Core i5-6400 Quad Core Processor

For the money for a streaming (not gaming) PC, its hard to beat an AMD Ryzen 5 or 7. If you were going Intel, I'd go for an i7 (6700k, 7700k, or the like) instead of an i5. You can save on the GPU to help afford this if you want, get a GTX 1050 instead of a GTX 960, for example. You don't need an SSD, it doesn't hurt though. You want it to be directly connected with a wired ethernet cable, don't use WiFi.

What video capture card are you getting?

If you're going to build yourself instead of buying a retail box, do this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/47bzdc/budget_friendly_secondary_streaming_pc_guide

Hello and thank you for your reply.

im glad you mentioned to get an i7 as I was really debating if I actually needed to go as high as an i7. For the RAM, would I be ok with 8gb or would you recommend 16gb?

also may I ask why not use WiFi?

I have the Elgato HD60.

WiFi is unsuited for uploading live streams. Basically, any other wifi device (even on other channls) can interrupt it, causing problems (dropouts) with your stream.

Get the PCIe Elgato (Pro model, I think?), the USB versions aren't as good.

I would skip the SSD and get a larger hard drive if you plan to record your games instead of just streaming them. Other than that it looks fine... maybe a slightly higher capacity power supply.

Don't think 8GB vs 16GB of RAM will make a difference.
