Advice after reading the forum

Hi all,

Just to be clear: I have spent 3 evenings watching Youtube videos and reading this forumto get the basic idea of what I need. I still have a view things I would love some advice or just honest opinions over.

For my local sportsclub I have been streaming some live matches when the Covid-protocol in my country did not allow any spectators. This was kinda a succes and I learned a bit about OBS. Used 2 cameras and in studio mode this worked very well.

Unfortunatly, at the moment and in the cominga months there will be no more matches due to Covid. Anyway, to still have something to offer our members, I want to organise both a bingo and a pubquiz.

My idea is to have me presenting it, with a phone camera(obs ninja). To play the quiz part, I want to use Kahoot, wich I show in OBS using screencapture from a second monitor. To use the presenter bit of Kahoot, I will use a second laptop(operated by friend), connected to the same WiFi as my laptop wich will be used for OBS.

My upload speed is about 30 mbps and I will not use the WiFi but will ‘plugin’ the laptop in my router.

I really prever streaming with Youtube Live because that is way more know in my area/our members than Twich or other streaming websites. I know Youtube Live has the option to use a ‘Low-latency-mode’(?) and that is kinda my concern.

When I would get the bingoball/ask the question for the pubquiz people should have almost no delay because of ‘starting the timer’ to answer the question(pubquiz) of to call in for a bingo(bingo).
Is there maybe anybody here with similar experiences who can advice me, or somebody who can give me advice in general to lower the latency as much as possible. Like I can wait 4 seconds to start the timer but 1 minute would be waaay to long.

Thanks for giving it a read. Looking forward for your reaction!

Happy holidays!

If you need a license to run the bingo normally, check with your regulator first. You'd need to make sure that you're fully compliant with your license on that. In my jurisdiction, bingos run over the internet like this require specific win conditions on the bingo itself that are different from bingo where everyone's in a hall. Your regulator will know this.

For the delay in your stream, do test streams ahead of time and see what the delay is.
Also, do a test in the first couple of minutes of each live broadcast to see what the delay is on the main stream itself, and adjust your timer behavior accordingly.

Thanks! The license is taken care of, that is all good. Good point though, that could have easily been a problem.

I will test stream it twice just to be sure, with as little audience as possible, so that the turn-out during the 'real deal' will be max.
Does the number of viewers have a lot of influence on the latency? Like whether there are 10 or 100 viewers? Am definitly not expecting more...

when i read that you want to use WIFI forget it please buy a long cable ;)

I wasn't clear, I'll fix it. MY laptop will be plugged into the router. MY laptop will be used for streaming. Only the second laptop, which is controlled by a friend for the presenting-part of Kahoot will be connected by WiFi.
