How accurate is http://obsproject.com/estimator

Also, when it asks "What is your approximate screen size / in-game resolution?"

Is it asking for my Desktop resolution, or the resolution I use in-game.

And finally, for bitrate and buffer.. do they have to be the same (e.g 3000 Bitrate, 3000 Buffers) or can I try different combinations such as 3000 Bitrate, 2500 Buffer.

And also, will changing my desktop resolution have a negative effect on my stream, or a positive (as in a performance boost). So, for example, if I am using a Desktop resolution of 1920x1080, and an in-game Resolution of 1280x720.. will changing my Desktop resolution to match my in-game resolution actually give me better performance (meaning.. no down scale)

Last, on the Estimator page it recommends enabling Aero if I am not using Game Capture (which I can't for the game I am playing because it uses DX7). Should I try enabling Aero?

Thanks

The estimator is good enough to get a picture of what settings to stick with. It's the base resolution you've set in the settings below video, your in-game resolution is irrelevant, but should be the same as the base resolution for best possible quality. The bitrate and the buffer should be the same as well. If your in-game resolution is 1920x1080, then stick with 1920x1080 in custom resolution and downscale the resolution to 1280x720, to improve the quality even more.

Well, I am playing an old game (Age of Empires 2) that only allows a maximum resolution of 1280x720 unless I use a Widescreen patch (but that thing is unstable).

So should I just lower my desktop resolution while I play?
Also, my upload is 4.2mbps but If I set my bitrate and buffer to 3000, my stream starts to lag a little bit. Only stable bitrate I was able to use was 2000 which is more than half my upload.

Is that a problem on my end, or just my ISP?

Your connection may just not be stable enough, it can be your router/switch acting up or something else I don't know of. Lowering the desktop resolution may help in this case, give it a shot but make sure to not let your GPU or your screen do any sort of scaling, as it can potentially introduce input lag and the picture will just look more grainy because it is stretching the image to fit your screen, if you're on an LCD that is. You can also just set the custom resolution to be 1280x720 and leave the downscaler alone or something. Give your ISP a call and let them ping your connection.

Well, I'm not using a router. Plugged directly into Modem. Also, using flat screen monitor. Also, not sure how to control GPU scaling. Not familiar with that but I will try and change my resolution to see if that improves my stream.

Thanks ;)

You do that in the GPU drivers, I don't know how it works on AMD, since I'm on an Nvidia card, but on Nvidia you just fire the Nvidia control panel up, go into Adjust desktop size and position and pick no scaling and hit apply.
