90 degree rotation of source, here's why

I would like to see rotation of source, here's why:
- if I rotate my webcam 90 degrees and zoom in, I get better view/resolution for full body presentation

I do the same with regular camera, except then I rotate the completed video in a video editor.

Someone once told me this is an old trick to improve the quality of full body shots

Most webcams take a horizontal shot, so if you rotate 90 degrees and just zoom in on the body top to toe, you get much better results, especially with chroma key as well.

Hope this makes it clear why I think it would be a great feature on OBS!

thanks!

You even posted in the "basic rotation" topic, which would cover this as well. Due to the way sources are handled/rendered currently, this will not be implemented in the current version of OBS, but as Jim already stated it will be available in the rewrite.

Yep, rotation of any angle is already in the rewrite.

Sounds great, any idea when the rewrite will be ready?

Thanks again for the great software! Just found it and testing and getting more and more impressed, well done!

HI Paibox, reason I posted it here is because somewhere I saw a question as to why it would be handy, and I had not seen the reason that I mentioned, that's why I started a new thread, feel free to delete if you like, I just thought it would be handy to have a thread discussing this particular reason for having it and it's use for others.

tnx

Hey, so is this a thing yet? It seems like this is from 8 months ago, has it not been implemented yet? I was hoping to be able to set up a webcam sideways and have it display in portrait mode.

Edit: After doing some digging it seems like there's an entirely new version that's being worked on? That's pretty cool, hope it's usable soon!!

Yes, the written version was released for Mac a week or two ago, and includes source rotation. A Windows version will be out eventually, too.

Hi, is there an ETA on source rotation for Windows?

Use case: TATE games (like shmups) that have you rotate your TV or monitor 90 degrees need to be rotated 90 degrees in OBS as well, or they'll appear sideways on the stream (and it's obviously no good to require potentially 100s of viewers to rotate their monitors, LOL)

Yeah an update on the progress of this feature would be nice. I have a handful of arcade games I'd love to stream that have a vertical orientation (commando, pac-man, shmups etc...) I would rather not emulate these titles just to get the correct orientation on stream (there are actual gameplay issues and my computer setup isn't ideal for gaming)

at least if development has currently started or not (coming eventually is way to vague).. The natural assumption is that the mac and windows versions are developed in close relation/parallel to each other. and that features that come out for one platform would released in a close time window for other platforms as well

It's been a handful of months since you said the feature has been out for mac which is giving me concerns. has the feature been delayed due to complications? scrapped?

The feature is long since completed. The reason it's not out on windows is because we haven't released the multiplatform build for windows yet. The reason why we haven't released the multiplatform build yet is because there are still a number of missing features that need to be finished before it's in parity with the original version. We don't currently have a few important things like hotkeys, chroma key, cropping, certain UI features, NVenc/quicksync, and a number of other things yet, so you can see understand there hasn't been a release for it yet. That being said, I am finishing up many of those key features at the moment; the important of them has been pretty much completed and just need a bit of polishing.
