9:16 mode using iphone 13 max pro with OBS Studio

I want to record a 9:16 movie with OBS Studio on an Intel based iMac - macOS Sequoia 15.0

First thing I did is adjusting Canvas => Preferences => Video

Doing so, Canvas in OBS Studio is 9:16 so far...

BUT...

I can not adjust the ratio on the iphone camera anyhow from 16:9 to 9:16:

What's wrong here?

I am simply helpless...

I already restarted macOS, of course the position of the iphone is 9:16
OBS Studio Version is 30.2.3 (64 bit)

You can select one of the 16:9 options and then rotate your iphone source 90° (right click, select "Transform" > "Rotate ..")

@dev47 Thank you for that workaround... Another tipp is to use iOS third party App EpocCam on the iphone, but then I am actually running into the problem that the device EpocCam is not available in OBS Studio as it should be...

As you can see in my sceenshot in my OBS 30.2.3 on macOS Sequoia 15.0 there is no device EpocCam available in OBS device config

The advantage of using EpocCam is steering the camera options... and that change of 16:9 to 9:16 works

I think the important distinction here is that changing OBS’s canvas to 9:16 doesn’t actually change the iPhone camera feed. OBS is just receiving whatever resolution and orientation the iPhone/Camera source provides, then fitting that into the canvas.

If the iPhone source is still being delivered as 16:9, I’d check the camera/continuity source settings rather than the OBS canvas settings. As a workaround, you can also rotate/crop the source in OBS so the final output is genuinely 9:16, but that will crop part of a 16:9 feed rather than give you a native vertical recording.

Since this is OBS 30.2.3 on an Intel Mac, I’d also make sure the iPhone/continuity camera plugin or method you’re using actually supports changing orientation. That may be the limiting factor rather than OBS itself.
