Question / Help 720p downscale

So say I'm playing at 720p and I downscale to 720p, does it for some reason downscale to 480p? Just having a discussion with some mates, I said there is no way obs does this, but is there any instance that it would? We were specifically talking about a game capture, but would it even do it if you screen capture?

Discussion happened where my buddy was playing at 1080p, and downscaling to stream to 720p, he then changed his res to 720p and played a round, and someone in chat said that it looked different, yet, I didn't notice any change. Am I wrong?

tell your pals to stop making new urban legends. Obs does what you tell it to do. Its a software not a gene in a bottle.

720p scaled down from 1080 especially with lanczos looks better than native captured 720p. So when source was switched to 720p quality dropped and nonsub pleb yelled booo 480p

x264 Rescale Output, Over Saturating Colors
Rescale Output (at Output) can do bad colors (v20.0.1 affected). Output (Scaled) Resolution (at Video) is OK.

Thanks for the replies thus far. So what you are saying is that the quality changed due to the obs's software makes most 720p look better.

not exactly, scaling down image just works this way. nvidia gave it DSR label and is selling it as a "feature" in their cards https://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/dsr/technology same mechanics
