Question / Help 2nd PC Streaming Video Card Question

Hello,

I have been streaming on my main PC and decided to setup my old gaming PC as a streaming machine to take the load off of my Gaming PC.

My streaming machine is as follows:
i7-870(1st gen)
Asus P7P55D
16 gb RAM(2x8gb 1600)
128 gig SSD
sc-512n1 delivered next week.

I do not have a video card for the machine and the i7 chip does not have a GPU so I have to get a video card for the PC. I was hoping, since this is just a stream processing machine, I would not need an expensive video card. But before I buy a 30 dollar one, I want to make sure I am not crippling my machine.

I also would like to know if this machine should do the trick of streaming 1080p30. I believe it should as its a quad core i7 with 16 gb of ram and a good capture card. Could it possibly do 1080p60? I am not looking to stream 60fps at this time, but in the future, I want the option as it will probably be standard in a year or 2 anyway.

Thanks,
Mike

1080p60, maybe, but at a very fast(Not veryfast) preset. It can do 720p60.

Any o'l GPU should work. I personally got a AMD R7 250.

just to be on the safeside i wouldnt really recommend a gddr3 card (yes they work no doubt if they are no gtx2xx cards)

the r7 250/260x or a gtx 750 or even a gtx 750ti should be the best suggestion here for a dedicated streaming machine

What big of a difference can a videocard make on a streaming rig?

technically not a real difference but since there were a few people reporting problems on a dedicated streaming machine with fps issues on stream due to the igpu but those were only like 2 or 3 people so far

and since his 1st gen i7 does not have a ipgu he needs some sort of gpu anyway also passive cooled cards do work especially the last few years from zotac but its still a passive cooled card if its hot outside and you dont have a/c you are doomed and since hes willing to spend 40+50 bucks for a gpu why not spend 40 more and get a decent little card maybe his plans change in the future
