Question / Help 24/7 continuous permanent streaming solutions

Hi. Does anyone here stream all of the time?

I am looking for recommendations on hardware. I have an Elgato HD60 but these don't have linux drivers. Besides, its USB and I think a PCI-e card would be better for 24/7 streaming? USB is a bit less reliable I think, bandwidth issues, card temperature issues, etc. I don't know what is industry standard for permanent HDMI capture & streaming but commercial grade USB devices are probably not robust enough.

I will be streaming on linux to use nginx rtmp & ffmpeg so hopefully some good cards will have linux drivers.

I thought judging by the price of Blackmagic Intensity Pro that they might be very good, but they have mixed reviews.

Any suggestions please?

I have used Blackmagic stuff on Windows for streaming 24/7 (using OBS Classic and Studio), and it works without issue for me.

Also considering that Linux is a first class client for BMD and OBS Studio, I would go with that combo if your OS is Linux.

Lastly the Intensity Pro 4k had some issues day 1, but (again, at least for me) those issue have been worked out on all fronts, and the device worked without issue in Studio (Windows and Linux) for me. (I say 'worked' because I replaced it with a BMD Quad 2, so that card isn't in use by me anymore).

Thanks for the info. Think I will go with the intensity pro.
Getting fed up of sound sync issues with Elgato HD60 (windows) and the fact they didnt bother to release 64bit drivers for ages, and nothing for linux.
Xsplit is a bit annoying, picks up desktop sound output, cant do 50fps and 25fps simultaneously.
NGINX-RTMP windows doesnt support exec commands (ffmpeg) so that leaves me with
Linux, BMD, NGINX-RTMP/FFmpeg and hopefully OBS!

So after all that expense, build a linux box, buy a BMD Intensity (PCI-E), find it doesn't work with AMD CPUs, another £250 on a motherboard and CPU, the effin sound still goes out of sync until the stream audio stops working completely after a day or 2. I'm so annoyed!

c3r1c3 didn't you ever experience audio sync problems such as this?

1. Use Intel, not AMD. Maybe that will change when Zen comes out, but until then if you want a decent performing CPU, you use Intel.
2. Make sure that the "Use buffering" option is checked in the BMD source options (right-click on BMD source in Studio->Properties, check "use buffering")
3. If your CPU gets overloaded, weird things can happen (like audio going out of sync). Another reason to stick with Intel at this time. Their stuff is tested more by BMD (and other companies) then AMD.

Also did you ask in these or the BMD forums about what systems work well with that card? Please keep in mind that any professional solution usually has limited support for other components (i.e. computer systems), so it behooves you to check with the company making the professional item as to what additional hardware/software you can use with it.

That said, it works with OBS Studio just fine for me.
