Bug Report 20.1.3 Mic/Aux randomly disables mid-stream

Today 12/8/17 I was streaming and randomly my microphone (AT2020 with Presonus AudioBox USB96) would cut out like there was no audio at all.

In OBS there would be no sound bar, I would have to click the Cog next to Mic/Aux - go into Properties - then choose my webcam microphone and then back to my Line 2 AudioBox USB 96. At the end of my stream it happened almost 5-7 times within 5 minutes it seemed.

(link to archived stream on 12/8/17 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/207877242. Issue happens the last time at 02:27:59)

Here is the log file - https://pastebin.com/BD6L91Ru

ANY help is more than appreciated, I don't know my way around OBS a ton as there are a lot of things to change and mess with so bare with me and I will do my best to follow instructions as close as possible. Just want to see what the issue is and what I can do to fix it.

Thank you
~Blanchy

Soo.... I'm noticing quite a few issues here.

First, I see this in your log:

Code:
4:51:51 PM.004: Device Remove/Reset! Rebuilding all assets...

This message means that your GPU drivers are crashing and recovering. Make sure that your drivers are fully up to date.

Second, you're still using 32bit OBS. Is there any specific reason for that? I would recommend that you switch to 64bit OBS to avoid memory issues.

Third, you have multi-adapter compatibility enabled on your game capture sources. Turn that off, you should never have enabled that.

Lastly, I see that your microphone device is a USB device, and that you have an Elgato as well as an additional webcam. The most likely cause of your reset is that your PC simply can't keep up with the USB requirements for all those devices at once. Try using this tool to move devices on to their own USB hubs: https://obsproject.com/downloads/usbview.zip

Hi Fenrir,

I just checked my GPU drivers and they are all up to date, I didn't realize I was in the 32bit so I'm going to try the 64bit tonight for my stream and see how that goes.

The Multi-Adapter Compatibility apparently got checked some how, I looked at every other game capture I have and none of them are checked so not sure how that happened...but now it is switched off.

I downloaded the USB View but I am unsure on how to use it, is there a way in the software to switch the devices around? Or would that just have to be something I mess around with on my USB ports on my tower?

Thanks
~Blanchy

There might be something wrong with this USB device (AudioBox), USB controller, or USB bandwidth exceeded from too many USB devices.

With 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, try to plug in AudioBox headphones out, to computer's line in (blue), and capture "line in" in OBS-Studio, and turn up "Phones" volume. USB will still need to be plugged in for power.

Maybe look for BIOS/Motherboard updates, it might improve stability.

After my stream tonight with the fixes that Fenrir suggested I had no issues at all!

Hopefully that continues in the future streams, thanks so much!!

Hi Fenrir,

So upon moving my USBs to their own hub and having a couple successful streams my microphone is cutting out again... I am using 64bit OBS, my GPU drivers are all updated, all the multi-adapters are off (that I am aware of), the USBs are all on separate ubs and even the elgato was moved to a USB 3.0.

I tried to do a recording and then uploaded the log file in hopes this will show you what is happening. This time I am trying to use my Elgato to stream with my PS4 but the microphone is disabling almost instantly.

I am completely lost as to what to do at this point, if there is anything that can be done please let me know

Thank you
~Jake

Ok, let's try this.

Please create a new Scene Collection for testing purposes. Use the Scene Collection menu at the top of OBS, select New, and call it "Testing". Then, add your sources that are suspected to have issues. This means make sure only the microphone is in use. Then check to see if the issue occurs still.

Hi Fenrir, thanks for the fast response!

I just made a new Scene Collection and only added audio then hit record. The mic was then disabled after a few minutes so I uploaded the log file and added that to a new paste bin.

That looks like not the correct log. When you make a test, use the OBS log upload feature from the Help menu and select "Upload Current Log" to make sure you're grabbing the right one.

Not sure, if this might help, but I had a similar with my mic on the Behringer Xenyx Q802 USB audio interface/mixer.
Some times my mic stopped working (in TS, OBS etc.).
When I disable and enable the USB device in my windows audio settings, it will work again.
I then remembered, that I had similar problems with some USB devices on my old system with some USB3.0 ports.
My new system only has USB 3.0 Ports and 2x USB 3.1 Ports. I checked, the connection of the behringer mixer and saw, that I had it connected to the USB 3.1 port. After I plugged it into one of the USB 3.0 ports, my problem disappeared.

So in my case, the problem was caused by the USB port / driver and the USB audio interface.

I can try that on my next stream tomorrow, hopefully it will do something helpful...It just doesn't make sense to me that OBS disables the whole interface even when I switch from my USB Audio box to my webcam mic and back to the Audiobox. Really frustrating especially when I'm live because I don't know what the viewers heard last.

In my case It was more like an access/driver problem. When I went into Playback Devices and swapped the default Playback-Device to webcam and then back to USB Mic interface, there was still no sound.
But when I set the USB interface to disabled and then enabled it again, the Mic was working again.
Since I swapped my USB interface from USB 3.1 to USB 3.0, I never got this issue again.

Just to clarify here, OBS cannot take that kind of control over your hardware devices. It runs in user space, it's not OBS disabling your interface, it's something else on your system. That's why this is a bit difficult to troubleshoot and people are taking guesses.

Hi, we seem to be having the same issue with our Audiobox in streams and recording. Here is the log file from a short test stream where we attempted to troubleshoot the mic dropping issue. This has been an extremely frustrating process, and we are eager to get our mics working smoothly with OBS. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

We are having the same issue again, but this time OBS did not allow the mics to be reinitialized. This is an incredibly frustrating problem, and we really need some help from you guys. Please help us to figure out why our Audiobox is disconnecting! Here is the last log file also.
