Hi,
I use OBS as my only recording software for both PC games and also when playing games on a Xbox One or PS4, but recently I have noticed 2 issues.
1st issue is that when I open OBS I have to open the properties for my capture card, and change the resolution from "Device Default" to "Custom" and then back to "Device Default" in order for it to be captured at 1080p, however according to the log files it's only actually receiving at 720p.
2nd issue is that if I capture from the capture card itself the quality is really low, but if I open the cards own software and put that full screen and then capture that video window the quality is really good.
Now the first issue does not present itself when using the cards own capture software, nor does the 2nd issue.
I have found sort of a way around the 2nd issue when capturing from the card itself but it add's another issue in which means it's not a viable solution.
The way around it is to increase the recording Preset from "Default" to "High Quality" Profile from "Main" to "High" and Level from "Auto" to "5.1", then in the capture properties for the device enable buffering, and this gives the quality that has always been available prior, but it also introduces a sound bug whereby the sound from gun shots will be a couple of milliseconds to seconds ahead of the video whilst all the mic and party chat from the console is perfectly in time, and this happens on multiple games from the Xbox One to the PS4.
Now when I record PC games it's spot on the video and sound quality are where they should be.
So on to hardware:
CPU: Intel Core I7 7700K @ stock
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270H
Memory: 32Gb Corsair 2400Mhz DDR4 @ Stock
GPU: GTX 980Ti
SSD: Western Digital Blue 500Gb (will be replaced when funds are available, as it's slow compared to my old Samsung 840 Evo)
HDD: Western Digital Red 3TB
Capture Card: Avermedia LGP Lite (would have better but currently no funds to replace it)
Now Recording Settings
Encoder: NVENC
Format: MP4
Audio Tracks: 6
Bit-Rate: 50,000 (Overkill I know but I don't like low quality videos)
Preset: Default
Profile: Main
Level: Auto
B-Frames: 2
Now those settings are what I have always used with OBS and they have worked flawlessly forever when I was recording console gameplay.
I actually don't have a video uploaded which shows the difference between the 2 recordings as of yet but I can upload one, but the closest example is this: https://youtu.be/QNNxsTXHOLY Excuse the language from my friend, in that video it's blurry at the start and then right at the end it goes clear, and this is basically what it is like capturing directly from the card through OBS and then recording through the capture cards own software.
This is what those settings give me when I record PC gameplay. https://youtu.be/fek40Yr4jkY
Now youtube makes it look worse, but from the pc the recordings look spotless with no issues to video quality or sync issues, however the console just looks really bad.
I do intend to replace the card because I want a 60fps card but currently I cannot do that, so the only work around that actually works is to record the video window of the Avermedia software using OBS, as that has the options I want to use.
I was just wondering if anyone else has come across these issues and maybe found a fix for them.
