Question / Help 2 Capture card question

Currently I am running both OBS classic and Studio for different purposes so this question may be a bit more complex due to that and I apologize in advance.

I have an Avermedia PCI capture card (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/891397-REG/AverMedia_mtvhddvrr_AVerTV_HD_Digital_Video.html) that records gameplay for either SD sources or HD sources. The system crossbar shows it as Avermedia BDA analog primary (SD sources) or Avermedia BDA analog Secondary (HD sources). Well I wanted to upgrade my camera from a USB webcam to a standalone camcorder and with HDMI out and the design of the card would need a second card to capture its input.

Has anyone had any experience running 2 of the same type of card? I know others have multiple capture cards but how difficult is it getting OBS to see 2 of the same type of card especially if both are set to say secondary to input HD sources?

Thanks in advance!

Is this AverMedia C027?
My AverMedia C027 can capture SD (composite or s-video) and HD (component or HDMI) at the same time in one card.

I don't have identical capture card, but I do have PureTV-U 48B0 PCI-E (480i s-video or analog cable) in the same computer, and OBS can use all 3 capture inputs at the same time (2 from AverMedia C027, 1 from PureTV).

Yeah the C027.

I was just unsure if 2 cards both running HD input would be an issue if I wanted to have one card with an HDMI console and the other having the HDMI camcorder.

It depends entirely on the capture card's software/driver. This would be a question to ask Avermedia. I would not assume so though, as AM gear is decidedly starter-grade.

I'd actually recommend taking the new hardware purchase as an opportunity to upgrade, either to an SC-512, an Elgato HD60 Pro, or a Magewell. They're pricier, but are vastly better cards. Can remand the AM card to camcorder duty at that point.

Thanks for the suggestions however none of those cards really seem efficient for me or my current setup.
The SC-512 seems rather hard to come by as the link you provided has listed out of stock and customer service doesn't seem to think they will get more in at the moment. There is a card made by Micomsoft that is the exact same but with a DVI passthrough, but then DVI is the primary HD input so I'd need an HDMI to DVI adapter (also the micomsoft is considerably more expensive with the pass through version than the non)

The Elgato is the cheapest, but also does not support retro gaming so anything that is composite/s-video/scart would not be useable on that card, Elgato has an external card for retro gaming. but I have a lacking of working USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports, I suppose I could get it an a USB expansion card.

The Magewell has both legacy and HDMI inputs, but I cannot find any information on their site about the card itself, they have several links to various capture devices but also a ton of notices saying specific cards being discontinued in the coming months. Plus they are the most expensive of the 3 (sans the Micomsoft version of the SC-512)

I will wait to hear back from AverMedia about running 2 cards concurrently, I have been planning on doing a complete overhaul of my system both the recording as well as the system hookups and outputs. since I have multiple retro consoles as well as modern my best bet it seems is a Framemeister as a central hub for console input/output, in which case I may save up a bit longer and go with the Micomsoft SC-512 being from the same manufacturer, I would have to research HDMI to DVI as I know nothing about it.

Yep, I use the Micomsoft version. DVI *is* HDMI, just with a different connector and more capabilities. The adapters cost about $5 and are passive pin-to-pin remaps; and the Micomsoft version comes with two. DVI carries audio as well. But yeah, the price is the bigger problem, and why I usually point people at the Yuan SC512; it's literally the same card, just without the passthrough daughterboard.

Would not recommend the Elgato externals. All of them have 1-2 seconds of capture delay, which makes sync'ing up cam/mic to the video a pain (you'll react to something a full second or two early, which can spoil it).

I have an XRGB-Mini, and it's pretty awesome after the initial sync delay, if that price point is indeed an option, and it looks MUCH better than any of the direct-input methods. A very few games will swap res on the pause screen, which is a deal-killer for those titles though, so having a fallback composite-capable card can be handy.

Oh that's fantastic. I missed the DVI boat completely, all my PC components jumped from VGA straight to HDMI so I never had any experience with it, but if its just passive connectors that is quite helpful.

So yeah I will just aim to get both the Framemeister and the Micom version of the SC-512, it will take longer to set up but since companies either only specialize in retro or modern having a card and output system that does everything makes for a much more streamlined setup
