I have a 16:10 (1920x1200) monitor, but streaming or recording in that aspect ratio would leave black bars at the side for most people. I had the simple idea of taking a 16:10 input and outputting a 16:9 stream/file with a small overlay at one side. This would give people something other than black bars, and could even make a webcam less intrusive.
This is all on a 1 PC setup, with no capture card.
So I had a look at the settings to see if there was an obvious way of doing this. I ended up changing the Base Resolution in the Video settings to 1280x720 and set up a scene with a Monitor Capture. It worked exactly as I expected - the 16:10 desktop sits nicely to one side in the 16:9 output window, with space for an overlay at one side.
But when I added a Game Capture, OBS simply took a 1280x720 image of the centre of the game window. This misses 60% of the game pixels, and is also the 'wrong' aspect ratio for an overlay.
Is there a simple way of getting OBS to see the game window in 16:10, the same way that it sees the desktop? I'd really prefer not to have to run games in 1080p because my monitor stretches instead of mapping 1:1, and I'd also prefer that people viewing my vids not have to put up with black bars at the side (not that anybody will be watching, but y'know).
