Hey guys,

I've wanted to run dual PC for recording and streaming for such a long time, but I keep running into problems. Please bear with me as I will give out as much info as you guys need.

My main PC specs are:

i7 6700k Stock
Asus Z170 Deluxe
32GB RAM
More than enough SSD and HHDs
GTX 980ti SLI
Windows 10

The PC I use for rendering and editing videos: (my old PC, only new thing is CPU and motherboard)

i7 5960x
ASUS X99 Deluxe
32GB RAM
More than enough SSD and HHDs
GTX Titan Black
Windows 10

I learned after a looooong time that SLI will not work with the game capture from OBS. Tried both classic and studio. Frames were all over the place in preview window. I didn't even click record or stream, the frames were awful in the preview window, but there was nothing wrong with the fps in my games.

Anyways, so i tried dual PC recording so that I can still use my SLI 980ti. But then I found out not many capture cards can do 1440p, only the most expensive ones. I bought a display port card, which was the biggest mistake of my life. After editing many settings, I kept getting awful screen tearing. I bought this since it supports up to 4K 60fps, so I hoped that i would never get any screen tearing again. Now that card is sitting in my PC doing nothing.

Well a few days ago I tried dual PC again, and I finally decided to forget my SLI setup. I used the game capture from OBS, and with one card it seems to work, somewhat. It seems like I still get crap FPS in the Preview window for OBS Studio, but not in OBS Classic. I tried this with both of my PCs. Anyways, I was happy that at least OBS Classic worked.

Here's the thing though. The preview window only works correctly (as in mostly no frame drops) when I set my in game settings to 1080p 60-144fps. As soon as I set it too 1440p 144fps I can see that the preview window is nowhere near 60fps. I can see frame drops easily. And sometimes if I set it to 1440p 60fps with vsync on etc, it seems to work fine, with showing the correct fps in the preview window. But for some reason this is not always the case. Sometimes It just wont work unless I set it to 1080p. Anyways, even when I set it to 1440p 60FPS, the fps seems to drop every 6 seconds or so for 0.3 seconds, then return to normal 60fps, drop again after 6 seconds etc.

I mean what are the chances that I keep getting this problem on two different PCs with different hardware? I would appreciate ANY kind of help as I truly have no idea what to do anymore.

My monitors are:

Two Asus PQ279Q 1440p 144hz (gsync turned off) (both displayport connected to my main PC, HDMI on of them is connected to my encoding PC)
One Asus 1080p 60fps monitor, nothing special about it. HDMI connected to my encoding PC.

I got some of the latest log files here:

Then some testing right now on my encoding PC:

TL;DR: Preview window in both Studio and Classic is not showing smooth or anywhere close to 60fps. If I set in game settings to 1080p, then preview window shows smooth 60fps. 1440p vsync on, in game settings 60fps, then it shows better fps in preview window, but still not smooth 60fps. Seem like something about 1440p is causing this.

Start by using OBS Studio and enable the multi-GPU compatibility option in its game capture source.

Thanks for the reply! Sorry I took so long to respond, but I was waiting for my new GTX Titan. And I STILL have the same issue with this card too. I tried your way many times, before and now, enabling the multi-GPU in OBS Studio. Preview window still doesn't show anywhere close to 60fps, while in game can have upto 100+.

I tested with my new titan x, no sli. Both studio and obs classic. Here are the latest log files:

Studio: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/40f9e46b3b663c6c9152b9153ad509b6
Classic: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/921df3ab1dbd8e5cc432a9315c92e95c

I think I have the same issue as this guy: https://obsproject.com/forum/thread...es-not-in-game-but-through-obs-preview.53192/

But I'm not even clicking record or stream button, yet I can't see 60fps in my preview window.

So current issue is;
If I set in game settings to 1080p, fps all the way upto 144hz, vsync on or off (doesnt matter here) I see 60 fps in my obs preview window. (GREAT, but)

But as soon as i set my resolution to 1440p, 60fps-144fps in game settings, then it starts to lag in my obs preview window. BUT if i set vsync on, I get almost 60fps in preview window when in game settings are 1440p 60fps. But it's not that smooth 60fps if you know what I mean. Also, as soon as something big graphics wise is happening in the game, the preview window drops frames, even with vsync on. My game however runs smoothly.

Summary: It seems like this is all a 1440p resolution issue. But surely my i7 5960x and titan x shouldnt have any issues with 1440p?
