0.16.1 - No Gradient Fonts!!! Why you do this to me?

Please add Gradient Fonts back into OBS-Studio.
It was removed from 0.16.0 and I though for sure it was going to be in 0.16.1 but it's still gone.
Please for the love of all streamers, add Gradient Fonts back into OBS-Studio.

Gradients are limited and bad controlled. Add small image 1x32 png, for example. Image is better option then one gradient fill.

Isn't there a way to have both? or allow people who want the old text to add it back via a plugin? like seriously I want the old one back too.. not EVERY one knows how to do the image bs.. I'm one of them I'm not a hardcore streamer or anything I just do it for fun in my off time and I don't wanna have to sit here and fuck with abuncha shit just to get it to work the way I had it before.

add an option to add it back via a plugin so people who want it can have it but it stays out of the actual build. Shouldn't be THAT hard..

If you had everything set up and working, as of right now that should not have changed. You just won't be able to create new text sources with the old system.

In time it is entirely possible that the new text source will allow gradient colours, particularly if enough people want it. In the mean time, there are a few options.

  1. Do without.
  2. Learn how to use the filters to create the same effect. As the filters can be used, and useful, on every source, that's probably a worthwhile thing to know.
  3. Go back to a prior version.

A guide on how to use the new Text system would be nice then at least.. maybe even some sample gradients n such for people who know nothing about image editing.. I don't have Photoshop or anything..and even then I wouldn't know wtf I'm doing.

OK, if you don't know how to use image editors to do stuff, there are web sites which will generate colour gradients for you. e.g. http://gradcolor.com/
Here's what I just did:
  • Generate a gradient from gradcolor.com, with two colours, about the height of the text you want to use (I used 80px) and save it to disk.
  • In OBS Studio, add a new Text (GDI +) source, leaving the text white.
  • Right click the newly-added source, select "Filters"
  • Click the "+" button at the bottom of the filters list, select "Image Mask/Blend"
  • In the filter properties, change the Type to "Blend (Multiply)"
  • In the Path, browse to the downloaded gradient from earlier.

I could go into detail about why Multiply does this, but the important facts are, white text, use Multiply.

Gradient will likely be implemented in the new text source, just give it some time. It had to be completely rewritten with a new renderer and it doesn't have all the Freetype features yet.

And now gradients have been added to the GDI+ text source in this commit. It should be part of the next hotfix release, if all goes well. Thank you all for your patience!
