Live Background Removal Lite 3.7.5

Reviews 4.67 star(s) 3 reviews

Since I've been using Linux, I've been searching for a stable plugin to do some background removal in OBS. The royshil plugin, once compiled myself, did wonders using the GPU accelerated option, but at each update, either from OBS, the CUDA drivers, or the Nvidia ones, I had to recompile the plugin myself. It was a hurdle, especially as I'm using a rolling release distro.

So I gave this plugin a try, and it really delivers! It simply works without being a resource hog, and the settings are simple enough to still be able to fiddle with it to my liking. I'd give it 5 stars when I'll be able to have a sharp mask, for now it's always a bit blurry on the edges, even with the advanced parameters tweaked.

TL;DR - Try the "400 - Guided Filter" filter level and new "Force mask without Delay" option of the new 3.7.5 version in combination!

Hi a_d_z_y__, thank you for the detailed review! I'm glad to hear it's working well on Linux.

Regarding the edges: The blurriness you see is actually a deliberate design choice. I prioritize temporal averaging to prevent flickering, as I believe mask flickering is more distracting to viewers than soft edges. It is a trade-off between edge sharpness and stability. You can also adjust the mask edge sharpness by tweaking the motion tracking speed (values around 0.8 usually work best).

However, many streamers believe a sharper look is required even at the cost of some stability. So, I implemented a setup just for you (and others who want it)! Please try setting the filter level to "400 - Guided Filter" and enable the new "Force mask without Delay" option.

This configuration prioritizes sharpness over the default smoothing behavior. It might be heavier or less stable than the default, but it should give you the somewhat “crisp” mask you are looking for. I hope this helps you enjoy the plugin even more!
Umireon and his team worked tirelessly for many weeks to get this working on my Mac. It wouldn't even load at first then black screen. Now it works great! They did a great job! Thanks to ALL!

Yay ty!
This is a fantastic virtual background removal option! Very lightweight and configurable, and the options to prevent aggressive flicker are the best I've seen outside of nvidia broadcast which is just WAY too heavy to use
