I don't know if this has been answered before, but I re-downloaded this three different times, and each time I do it I encounter the same problem. No Snip.txt shows up, I created a txt file called Snip to see if that would work, but it didn't. So I am a bit lost? http://vvcap.net/db/wVi9NZU8nOeeDYVEVmN1.htp

Snip.txt gets created when you play a track for the first time. The text file appears in the same directory as Snip.exe.

It happens whether I open up snip 1st and then spotify, then I select save information separately, or if I open spotify, then snip and it says the same thing. It only happens as soon as the music starts to play.

I still can't replicate this.

I only have Spotify installed currently so I tried it with that.
I started Snip, enabled "Save Information Separately", started Spotify, and then played a track. Snip correctly shows the artist/track and saves it to the separate files fine.

Did you stick the files in a sub-folder of OBS, Program Files, or Program Files (x86)? If so you need to run the app as admin (right-click, Run As Admin) for it to have permissions to make or modify a file of those "Program Files" sub-folders. I'd recommend moving it to a location on desktop or off root of hard drive (e.g. c:\NowPlaying\).

Thanks for your excellent work mate. I have been using SNIP since the beginning. A few days ago, while i was streaming, I noticed a net framework error and SNIP completely froze. From that point on, it started giving me problems. Please find below:

1. Snip becomes very 'laggy' and sometimes stays behind Spotify by 3 tracks. If I hover my mouse on SNIP it shows what track is playing but it has no connection with Spotify and then all of a sudden it catches up.
2. When I right click on SNIP, it refuses to launch. I sometimes have to wait 1 minute and I can't tick/untick anything. This did not happen in the past.
3. All of a sudden I cannot stream my album art. I have the song name but the art snip does not update itself. SNIP randomly decides to show 1 out of 10 artworks but even that is dodgy.

I would love some help with these issues, I have updated, downgraded, something happened since that framework error and Windows is telling me everything is up to date :(

There is still some UI-blocking code in Snip that I'd like to get rid of eventually. It doesn't happen often but if Spotify's web server were really slow to respond some time then it may cause it to hang. It may also skip downloading the artwork if there's no response in a short period of time. If your internet is slow or under heavy load it may fail to download the artwork.

I'll take a look and see what I can come up with. I may add some hidden debug settings that allow it to save dumps or hung calls.

I am also having the .net error issue when trying to use snip with iTunes. If there's anything I can give you to help you work out this bug, let me know! I'd be happy to help.

Uploaded v4.3.0,
https://github.com/dlrudie/Snip/releases/tag/v4.3.0

integrabyte,
Run this version, set your options, press Ctrl+Alt+D, and then play your music from Spotify. If it hangs anywhere then hopefully the time gets measured. After you're done send me the Debug.txt file in the Snip directory. You can also paste it to pastebin if you want.

I just have done a try with the 4.0 and didnt work, but with this one worked instantly, honor for you by doing this topic and for the creator, I was searching for some plugin that shows the music a long time ago, thanks so much ;)

Thanks for the update. I am running some tests, so far the are promising. Will get back to you with a full debug log later down the week so you can troubleshoot anything out of the ordinary.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

I have iTunes running (latest version) - Snip 4.3.0 and Obs V0.624b.

Ive created a Text Source - loaded the Snip.TXT and selected iTunes in the SNIP.EXE icon in the taskbar and nothings showing on my OBS. Any idea????

@theOperator Any crash log of any kind would help.

@aurrum When you select iTunes within Snip it should automatically launch iTunes for you. When you play a song and you move your mouse over the Snip icon it should show the title of the song playing and the artist. I just tested with iTunes v11.1.5.5 and it worked with that just fine. Maybe you just have the text source incorrectly configured?

@Sean3789 That crash is related to OBS and not Snip. Snip is a separate program entirely and does not interact with OBS. Any program that can read a text file can do that. Perhaps it's just a bug in the 32-bit version of OBS.

I created this account because I am having a problem I cannot seem to figure out. When I extract the file, I assume that it is ready to run. So I double-click the .exe. It says "Would you like to run as admin?" I click OK. However, it does not open. I look down in my taskbar, and see the icon. It says its using spotify. I right-click on it, nothing. I left-click on it, nothing. I wait a little bit, then mouse over the icon again and it disappears. It is a silent crash. I seriously am wondering why this is? I would like to use Snip for streaming. I have Win7 64bit. Help Pls?

Also, it immediately opens WerFault.exe -- the crash troubleshoot program.

EDIT: I tried to download versions: 4.0.0, 4.1.0, and 4.3.0 -- 4.1 and 4.3 failed to open, yet 4.0 worked fine.

Could you look in the event viewer and see if it lists any kind of crash information?

Snip will ultimately catch all exceptions and at least display an error message of some kind.

I am having issues using SNIP with Windows 8.1.
I've tried the different versions and 4.0.3 works but any newer versions after that it just shuts down instantly after I start it.
On my other computer with Windows 7 everything works great with the new versions.

I do not get any error and even trying setting compability mode to Windows 7 and even Vista same thing happens it just shuts down instantly.
It seems some change that happened with 4.1.0 and forward doesn't want to work correctly with Windows 8.1 for me anyways.

I released a new version.
https://github.com/dlrudie/Snip/releases/latest

I have a feeling a lot of peoples silent crashes or crashes were related to the global hotkey registering. I added a message that will pop up if it can't register the hotkey and then skip it so it will continue running. You can optionally disable hotkeys afterwards to hide the message entirely.

I will add the ability to customize the hotkeys in the future.

There are also other changes/fixes/additions so check out the changes on GitHub.

Whenever I launch WinAmp, it always shows the song playing with Snip. Just today I keep getting "WinAmp is Currently not Running." when I play a song.

I'm using a scroll text to display the name of the music I'm listening to, on stream. But the track and artist name is not separated.
Let's say that the title is something like "Iron Maiden - Powerslave"
When it scrolls it will look like this: "Iron Maiden - PowerslaveIron Maiden - Powerslave"
I tried the space before and after track format in output format options but it didn't work.
Any solutions? Thanks in advance!

That might be an issue with the scroll display you use. If you look at the text file saved there should definitely be spaces in it. If they're not displayed when it scrolls then that plugin may be trimming spaces.

I'm having this problem too, and I've tried formatting Winamp various ways and I believe I noticed something.

If you use a hyphen in your formatting as opposed to an En Dash, no spaces are added to the formatting in the Snip.txt - as well, other ATF commands from Winamp work when you use a dash too. It's almost like it's deciding to just show however you have your ATF set up in Winamp- minus the spaces.

But when you use the en dash in Winamp as opposed to a hyphen, (so %artist% %title%) the artist and the title fields seem to be swapped in the Snip.txt

Maybe I'm wrong, but that is how I am seeing it. Good work btw Dopefish- this helps thousands of streamers every day I bet!
