Question / Help YouTube Streaming Issue Help please

So, my friend and I would like to dual stream to YouTube on the same channel. We have actually done this once in testing but we now have a problem where, because of her need to set a funky resolution on her computer, YouTube won't let her stream through.

She is using a TV as her main monitor, connected with HDMI, and for some reason it INSISTS on having the resolution be 1862x1048. If she goes to 1920x1080 the screen leaks off the edges, or zooms in a bit so the dge of the desktop are outside the edge of the screen. I hope that makes sense. We've gone through all the monitor settings and there is NO WAY to make this stupid thing work correctly.

So, we thought OBS should have a way to resize what it gets or what it sends out, but when we go to the various resolution settings and scaling setting, they're all messed up dimensions, none of which are good for YouTube apparently.

So, if anyone has any idea how to make this work, we would be VERY grateful!

Thanks!

I assume the "messed up dimensions" you see in Settings > Video > Output (Scaled) Resolution are things like...
  • 1862x1048
  • 1489x838
  • 1396x786
  • 1241x698
etc.?

That's probably because OBS Studio tries to calculate common resolution settings based on your base resolution and common ratios (I think that's how it works). That field (Settings > Video > Output (Scaled) Resolution) should be editable, so I think you can just type in whatever resolution you want. You should be able to type (or paste) "1280x720" right into that setting box, and save the settings, and it should work. Your friend's TV resolution, 1862x1048, is basically as close to 16:9 as it can get, though it's not exact, so there might be a tiny amount of stretching/skewing.

Well, we may never know now. In messing around with all the various settings she somehow had it get set to 1920x1080 and NOT overscan at all. So, instead of messing with things further, she's just leaving it that way in case she can't get back to it.

RytoEX - Thanks for the siuggestion of the field being editable. I'll keep that in mind if it comes up again.

Suslik V - I think that was basically what we were trying when it suddenly reverted to actually working.

Anyway, thanks for the ideas. Cheers!
