YouTube Stream Keys

Hello Everyone: This is not really an OBS question, but I am hoping the OBS community can clarify my understanding of YouTube Stream Keys.

I live stream church services to YouTube, and I create a YouTube Scheduled Event ahead of time. In the OBS Stream Settings, I log in to Restream which I have set to the YouTube event, and this has worked reliably for over a year. Recently I created 2 YouTube Scheduled Events, and this caused a Duplicate Stream Key error. After some investigation and testing I realized there was a conflict with enabling the Auto-Start option, and turning Auto-Start off resolved the problem. However, this led me to try to understand more about Stream Keys.

My understanding was that YouTube Stream Keys are unique at the event/stream level, and they cannot be reused. However, I see YouTube assigning the same Stream Key for new events, even after that value has been used previously.

All comments appreciated.

Cheers,
Tony N

Hello Everyone: This is still potentially causing me some grief, so here is a restatement of my original post on YouTube Stream Keys.

I have been live streaming church services from OBS to YouTube, via Restream, for 2-3 years, and I typically set up a YouTube Scheduled Event ahead of time for any given event. In the YouTube Scheduled Event, the Auto-Start and Auto-Stop settings have defaulted to Disabled, and I have always left them that way. When I Start Streaming in OBS, it shows up on YouTube and is streaming end to end i.e. it is Public, and can be seen by anyone. And Auto-Start is now showing as Enabled - without any manual intervention on my part.

Restream's position is that YouTube Scheduled Event Auto-Start and Auto-Stop should be Enabled. However, if I do this when I am scheduling multiple events, I will get YouTube Error: Duplicate stream key. Select a new key below to go live here or switch to Auto-Start Test (10).

So, although this setup (Auto-Start and Auto-Stop Disabled) has been working for me, I have been having some explainable problems recently, which caused me to look into the streaming parameters and settings.

Cheers,
Tony N.
