YouTube Live, OBS, bitrate issues/questions

I've been streaming through YouTube Live since the pandemic started...probably 100+ hourlong or multi-hour streams at 1080p30 with no issues.

I have one event I'd like to try in 1080p60fps. Yes, I have plenty of bandwidth. (gigabit up & down)

See the screenshots below (sorry for the long post)....
  • I set OBS to 1080p60. Set my bitrate per the Youtube recommendations...9,000 Kbps
  • I set YouTube ingestion settings to VARIABLE bitrate and click the "enable 60fps" option
    • I read variable is better than a fixed number as that lets the encoder tell YT Live what speed is coming....Plus, 1080p fixed only ranges in the ingestion settings 3000-6000 Kbps ...which does not align with YouTube's own instructions
  • Then I start the OBS. All is well. working fine. Excellent connection. I usually set my bitrate about 1000 Kbps above the recommended number just because....
  • But in YouTube control room, it's telling me my bitrate is TOO HIGH and it recommends 4500 bps...which is the 10080p30 recommended setting.
So, if I'm understanding it right, I'm sending 9000 Kbps...but it's only using 4500 Kbps...the 1080p30 rate? is this just how YT Live works and I should stop fussing with it?

Or have I not set something up right....

Thanks for any insights

If it's working, and you're getting p60, don't sweat the warnings. Their recommendation is 4500-9k. Bit rates fluctuate. The warnings you posted show it a little above 9k. No big deal.
