Question / Help XLR Microphone Cracks and Lags When Using OBS Studio

Hello and thank you for trying to help me with my problem.

I just recently got an XLR Microphone (the AT2035 to be more specific) and it works great with other programs like Dxtory and Audacity. I have been using OBS Studio for recording voices from discord, as well as streaming, and after installing my XLR mic, I've had these weird lag/crack noises coming from only myself. This only occurs when OBS Studio is open. Whenever I close it, my microphone returns to normal. I did note that the audio lag and crack in my mic is heard from my friends' side in the discord, as well as in recordings and streams. I also noticed that my friends voices crack a little when OBS Studio is up as well, and they also return to normal when I close the program, but that isn't reflected in the stream or recording.

Here's an example of the stream where I was testing it out:

I use a Scarlet Solo 2nd Gen audio interface for connecting my XLR mic to my PC. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

There have been some audio buffering/chunking fixes in... I'm not sure what to call it. It's gonna be 17.0.1, or 17.1.0 or 18.0.0, so when it comes out take a look at that.

In the meanwhile make sure your buffering on the Scarlet is high enough (along with the VAC you're using), and not using the VAC, try reducing the load on your USB bus (either have your webcam run in MJPEG mode... there's a forum post around here that explains how to do that) or lower it's resolution.

Thank you for the reply. I messed around with my actual webcam and it seems like my mic works without it plugged in at all. Going to do some research as to why that's the case. Also going to look into buffer size for my Scarlett. I'll also keep a look out for the update when it comes out. Appreciate the troubleshooting ideas!

It doesn't work because of USB interrupt overload.

Running a webcam at 1920x1080@30p (uncompressed) over USB2 is a horrible idea (hence the suggestion for using MJPEG or lowering the resolution). Couple that with using a mediocre (driver-wise) sound interface over USB2 and that's a recipe for issues.

It's easier/cheaper to lower the resolution, and if you have a touch of tech skill, using MJPEG will hopefully let you enjoy both your high resolution and Scarlett.
