Question / Help Workspace screen capture issues [Ubuntu Gnome 14.04]

When using multiple workspaces, "Screen Capture" doesn't recognize other workspaces. This is somewhat troublesome, because since I don't have multiple monitors but would like to get back in to streaming, I need to have most things - including the streaming software - off to the side. Workspaces help a ton, but the issue is this:

OBS will only recognize the workspace it is running on. You can get windows captures of other environments, but screen captures won't get registered.

I was wondering, is there a workaround for this? An extension I just can't find?

I'm going to say probably no, as the window manager is likely not rendering the other workspaces when you're not on them.

I actually have a worse problem due to a similar reason, I run Awesome window manager, and it stops rendering windows when you're on a different tag (analogue of workspace). So even window capture doesn't work on other tags.

It is same with the i3-wm (i3-wm.org) also. It enlists all windows open in all workspaces, but can only get the xcomposite windows from the workspace where OBS-MP is running. Confirmed.

SOLUTION:

I found a way in i3-wm (though I requested a feature to the i3-wm developers).

1. Open both your application and obs in the same workspace.
2. Then add the xcomposite window of the specific application to your scene.
3. Then move the application to another workspace.

Tada! It works! :D

That dirty workaround XD By the way the xcomposite not the best, because if it die (it can easy but It seems random) then every xcompsite item will die in your scenes and they working after you relogged.
