With absolutely no regard for output quality or resolution, what steps do I take to minimize the burden OBS has on the performance of my game?

I just want to be able to collect evidence of my plays in the form of short clips to turn into small gifs or webms that I can then post to Tumblr or send to my friends. Even when I put what I feel are the lowest settings in OBS I'm noticing my game not performing as well as I'd like it to (I'm playing something extremely fast paced with an aggressive playstyle so every frame counts, especially when I'm trying to land trick shots consistently. Even with all my graphics settings in game turned to low and NVidia settings oriented towards performance there's still a noticeable impact on my ability to perform until I close OBS. I have an Nvidia GTX 1080.

If you want no impact at all, you need to capture your gameplay with an external capture device and record this capture device from a second PC. This capture device reads the monitor signal and doesn't interfere with CPU/GPU at all.

If you actually intend to do this, make sure you buy a capture device that supports your gaming monitor resolution and fps/Hz. Most cheap capture devices just support up to 60 Hz. If you play fast paced games, I guess you're running with 144 Hz or higher, so make sure any capture device you buy is supporting that.
