Question / Help Windows and OBS audio capture

Need some clarification about how OBS captures audio. I was under the impression, based on forums replies, that changing the global volume slider in Windows Audio Mixer had no influence in OBS audio levels but it does affect it when I try to record with different volume settings. The desktop audio level bars themselves in the OBS main window reflect the changes in Windows Audio levels.

Did I misinterpret the replies given to different audio issue topics or am I missing information that wasn't conveyed for the sake of brevity?

Not for me. If I adjust the main volume silder in the Windows sound settings or in the standalone old Windows mixer, the audio levels in the OBS Audio Mixer dock don't change and a video recorded also doesn't change volume. I just tested with the "default" audio device while writing this reply to make sure. I recorded the sound of my media player playing through the default device (Speakers), and in the video the volume doesn't change at all.

What does change the volume in OBS are the app-specific volume settings in the Windows sound settings or in the Windows mixer.

After your reply, I tested each of my audio outputs and this is what I found, after changing Windows global audio level:

1) If OBS set to process motherboard or case audio jack outputs (if that makes any sense), global volume does not have any effect;

2) If OBS set to my monitor's audio jacks, through displayport, it affects it.

Is this expected behaviour or is there a setting I can change to stop this behaviour?
