Windows 11 Desktop audio can't be muted

I am running windows 11 and using a VB-audio virtual cable to get my desktop audio into the whatnot stream. All other audio channels can be muted/adjusted in OBS using the slider. The desktop audio is a constant level, whether muted or not in OBS. When muted, the bars turn gray but the audio still gets into the whatnot stream. I can only adjust by using the volume control in windows media player, not in OBS. How can I get the audio to adjust or mute in OBS?

If you have confirmed the audio is being heard on stream and it's not just you hearing it locally, to me this seems like an audio routing issue.

I wish I could give you an easy answer. My guess is some other audio device is receiving the same audio and it's being broadcast in OBS but there's no way to be sure without knowing your setup and routing.

Plan your signal path carefully, step by step. Make sure there are no loopbacks. Troubleshooting VB can be a chore because it's very abstract. There's no visual indication of what goes where. Maybe draw a visual flow chart if it helps you.
Install VB VoiceMeeter or use Windows' audio settings (System -> Sound -> Volume mixer) to route and mix sounds from different apps.
Also go through all OBS audio settings, including Advanced Audio Properties in the Audio Mixer.
Good luck.
