Question / Help "Window Match Priority" what does it do?

The Window Capture and Game Capture sources have an option for "Window Match Priority"

The dropdown box has the following 3 options:

1. Window Title
2. Window Class
3. Executable Name

I'd like to know what the differences are between these 3 options. Window Match Priority was introduced in OBS MP. So OSB1 did not have this option. But somehow OBS1 would pick the right window every time.

I am having problems with OBS MP where it is not picking the right "Source" window automatically. I've tried changing the 3 options but OBS MP is still not choosing the right window consistently.

well, the differences between the 3 are as follows

Window Title = pretty self explanatory, OBS will use the the title of the window (the text you see up on the border) to capture the window
Executable Name = all pretty self explanatory. OBS will look at the name of the executable that is displaying the window
Window Class = This one is a bit more difficult to explain. when you develop a program for windows, you set a "window class" which informs windows what type of "window" you are using to display your application. to quote MSDN "A window class is a set of attributes that the system uses as a template to create a window. Every window is a member of a window class. All window classes are process specific."

Window Title SHOULD in theory be the most accurate, however as for how OBS MP actually handles the capturing internally, I unfortunately cant really tell you, as i don't know myself

But where do I specify the "Window Title" I want to capture??

Where do I specify the "Executable Name" I want to capture??

I don't see anywhere, where I can specify a title or executable. How does OBSMP know which window I want to capture?

It's all part of the Window dropdown. It doesn't affect how you initially capture the window, it affects now you re-capture the window after restarting OBS, or if the window changes somehow between captures.

There is no way to specify a wildcard for the "Window Title" option, or is there? In my case the first part of the title is always the same but the second half varies.

Any way to get this feature or similar behavior for Linux? I'm switching to Linux and I don't have the same functionality like this from Windows...

same problem, when i select the same exe and close the window other window with same exe not switch

I am also having issues with OBS picking up Window Sources - is very temperamental but will eventually hang and give me a white screen of death (better than a blue screen ?)

... and the preview pane does not change even when moving between difference Scenes/sources manually.
