I was using 17.1 (I think) 17.something for sure. I had been using it 6-9 months easy. I only use it to record a game. I've always had it setup for Window Capture instead of game capture. No real reason in particular other than it worked and I didn't feel like figuring out any settings. I just wanted to record my game and upload to youtube to show people things in the game's forum and it just worked out of box.
About a week ago or so it stopped recording video. I have no idea why. What it shows in the video box is the screen I was on when it quit recording video. It's been bugging me to upgrade to 18.something for a while now and I've just ignored it because I didn't care about a newer version. My needs are simple and it was working, so I didn't bother. I had need to record again today and as with previous attempts, it just showed the screen I was on when it stopped recording video the very first time. Today I decided to try and fix it.
My first thought was that it was forcing me to upgrade to the 18.something, so I went ahead and did the upgrade, but that didn't change anything. Same ole same ole. Audio records, video stuck on the screen from when it first stopped recording video. My next thought was that maybe some setting got jacked for that application, so I recreated the source, again using Window Capture. Even a new window capture is showing what was on the screen when it stopped recording video and isn't even the same screen I'm currently on. For giggles, I said, okay, I'll try game capture. Well.... That works. Game capture works just fine.
Now my question is, why does game capture work when window capture doesn't? I have had need to record some things that are window capture before that isn't a game and I'm now wondering if those things will not record video, though I haven't tried it yet.
Any idea why Window capture is showing something other than what is currently on that window and will not record what is in the window?
