Hi everyone,

I'm having a problem with my OBS and its according to window capturing my elgato software, yes i do know to just use the video capture device option, but i want to be recording my actual gameplay and stream it at the same time.

Whenever i select elgato.exe in window capture, the software does appear, the actual screen does appear, but the preview (which is black) does not appear in OBS and i dont know why. Any suggestions? i've been having this problem for quite a good time now.

You should not have to use Window Capture to record the Elgato with OBS. There should be an option under Video Capture Device for Elgato. This way you wont have the Elgato software in your recording, you will just have the game that Elgato is recording. Hopefully this will work. If it doesn’t, make sure that the Elgato software is closed. If it’s closed and the capture still isn’t showing up, restart OBS.

Second, the fact that you are both streaming and recording at the same time is not causing the black screen, but it is very inefficent. If you are recording to YouTube or Twitch, you cana archive the streams very easily. And I don’t know about Twitch, but I know you can definitely download your YouTube videos and streams if you are logged into your account, so that should be a lot less CPU intensive and more effecient in general.
