I am not 100% sure if it's since my Win11 updated to 24H2, but I have completely reformatted my whole PC and installed only latest nVidia drivers and OBS, and the problem is still occuring.
What is the problem?
When I have OBS open, not even recording or streaming (takes longer to occur), it can make the game hitch after about 1-5 mins gameplay. If I press record it does it very quickly. However I am not able to reproduce it using x264 or nVidia NVENC HEVC, but it does happen using nVidia NVENC H.264.
Example of problem, example shown on ice as it's more noticible due to expecting a smooth slide:
(at the start and end of the video, you notice the ice slide is smooth, this is because the issue hadn't started yet, and at the end I pressed start menu then went into the game again (was borderless to seamless).
Troubleshooting steps taken:
- I can work around the issue 2 ways: 1.if I set my main monitor 75hz, but then OBS doesn't record the stream smoothly, I always have played the same game and others at 60fps/60hz/vsync always on. 2. I press start menu icon or click 2nd monitor then click back into the game, the issue fixes immediately, but then returns in about 1-5 minutes. (maybe windows/nvidia bug?)
- Reformatted whole PC
- Tried different resolutions, windowed, fullscreen, borderless. Low gfx settings.
- Tried every combination of setting in recording or streaming, issue occurs with both.
- Issue can occur even if not recording, but seems to take longer to occur and definitely occurs if fps in OBS is set below 60 (and not even recording, streaming, or have preview on).
- Tried old nVidia drivers, latest.
- Selective startup, disabled non microsoft services, uninstall Avast.
- Have tried latest stable OBS and latest Beta as of today (beta3), now on an earlier verion 29.1.3 with issue still occuring.
- I have contacted square enix and checked all windows bugs, installed the preview update but no luck.
- I have disabled FBAR, SMT, powerstate, multilevel core etc in bios, nothing changes.
- Not opening, or closing obs resolves the issue instantly.
- Setting game cpu affinities, OBS high priority, disabled OBS browser acceleration.
- Reset entire obs profile due to reformat so it's base build.
SPECS:
AMD Ryzen 3600 6 core
nVidia 3070 ASUS OC edition 3 fans
80GB RAM DDR4? 3200

I'm reaching out because I am out of options and need expert help.
Thanks in advance
