Question / Help Why has mp4 support become unstable in v18.0.1?

What changed? I saw the warning that I should probably record as a format that video editors can't import, mkv, and that I can mux it to an mp4, where I get to lose quality or have audio sync problems that people report.... and I'm experiencing problems where OBS will simply not be able to stop a recording.

On previous versions, if in the rare case it wouldn't stop the recording, if I forced exit, the mp4 always worked.

I just tried the TS format, which *can* be imported into programs like Premiere..... we'll see how that goes..

mp4 was always unstable because the stream informations are written to the mp4 at the end of the file (closing the file)

if your pc crashes, obs cant write those infos, so your mp4 will be corrupted and nearly not restorable

you can record in mkv and the use the remux tool from the "File" menu to remux the mkv to mp4

mkv does not have those problems like mp4 (but is not compatible with adobe because it's not an "industry standard" as they say...).

No it didn't. That was the whole reason for trying to move people off of mp4 and having them losslessly remux it afterwards.
