Whenever I stream with OBS studios, it will only display my overlay with a black background. Why???

We cannot say with more information, because OBS itself doesn't have any "overlay" feature. We don't know what you're talking about. You probably added some source that acts as overlay, and have issues with that source.
Please describe what you did, describe what you expect what should happen, and describe what actually happened.
