When OBS is running, I can't play any videos, either locally or via streaming

This only happens on my new computer, an Alienware laptop. All drivers and software up-to-date with the latest. My older Lenovo doesn't have this issue, but I did change a lot of the settings on OBS there to resolve a different issue. The changes I made were specific to that issue, and from guidance of posts I found here. So, perhaps I need to adjust some things down a bit, but this is a newer system, better graphics, and I'd like to keep the quality higher than my older system if possible.

When OBS is running, if I try to play a video, e.g. an mkv file, it just sits, doesn't play, even though the play button is pressed (shows the pause button, indicating it should be playing). As soon as I close OBS, the video starts running just fine. Similar with going to a YouTube link, it just does the spinner "waiting" thing and never plays the video, until I close OBS. I had a smaller mkv file that played in very slow motion when OBS was running. Though I'm a software engineer, I've never had expertise in graphics/video/audio, so I'm quite green at what the settings mean. Have you seen this before? Is there a setting I should change? There are so many, I don't know where to start.

Thank you for any and all assistance!

I'm not sure the log files will help, but I did upload them: https://obsproject.com/logs/FB4DV2-si_vBhD4O

Hi there!

I have the exact same problem and have not found any ways of solving it. I feel so helpless.
Have you by any chance found a solution?

All the best.
