when i am recording a video obs is making 5 second clips/read first!

So, basically, here is the problem I'm having.

I record a video using OBS, and then when I go to check the video I see it was split into a whole bunch of 5-second video clips. In addition, this cuts out a lot of the audio that I recorded.

The strange part is, when I record without saying anything it seems to work fine. Looking at the log file it seems to start and stop recording automatically (I'm not doing that) which I don't know how to fix...

Sorry if this is a really obvious problem; I'm new to OBS but I can't seem to figure out how to fix this and I can't record with this problem since most of the video gets cut out.
Thank you!

You seem to have set some hotkey within OBS to start/stop recording (in Settings->Hotkeys) and are pressing this hotkey very often without noticing while you're in a different app. Choose a hotkey with a more difficult key combination you don't press accidentally and regularly in other applications.

I have seen this question a few time in the forum with this same answer.....but I am experiencing the same thing. I record my video, and when I'm finished I got to the folder where they are saved.....and I have one long video and a TON of small snippets. My keyboard is nowhere near me so I know I'm not hitting any hot buttons. Can't figure this one out. It just continues to export snippets!

In fact, i started typing this right after a recording and 15 minutes later, it's still exporting snippets!

In this case you might have set your recording format to m3u8, which is actually creating small snippets of 5 second long video and a playlist. That's a format used for HLS streaming. I wasn't aware of the new m3u8 output format when I wrote the above post, but in the current version of OBS it's something you can set in advanced output mode.
