Question / Help What's the maximum my 1920x can do?

Hello there!

Today I have build a brand new streaming pc for encoding next to my gaming pc.
I started testing things out and I discovered that I had problems with streaming 1080p60 @ medium CPU preset.
As you can see at this video: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/381347380 (~02:40), the stream starts stuttering when medium to high motion images appear.

Can someone tell me why this is happening? Is it because the 1920x simply can't handle 1080p60 at the medium preset? Or does it need a higher bitrate than i'm using right now?

OBS settings:
  • 1920x1080
  • 60 fps
  • Lanczos
  • 6000 kb/s bitrate
  • Medium cpu usage preset
  • High profile
My setup:
  • Gigabyte X399 Aorus Pro
  • AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1920X (running at 3.50 ghz)
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB 2666MHz
  • OCZ Vertex 128GB
  • MSI GeForce® GT 710
  • Corsair CX450M
  • AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K GC573
EDIT 1:

I found out that a Threadripper 1920x needs at least quad channel RAM. I think this is the problem here. I will upgrade the system to 4x8gb 3200mhz.

Did having quad channel RAM help? I have a similar setup and my 1920x can’t handle medium preset. I have it on fast, and sometimes it still says encoding overloaded. I’m using dual channel RAM. Let me know if you found a solution, thanks!

There's no point in buying a Threadripper and using only dual channel memory because it dramatically increases latency between CCX, forces data to run twice through infinity fabric and so on.

I don't know if encoding overload is caused by it, in your specific case, but you will not be able to fully utilize a Threadripper until you get all 4 memory slots populated with adequate memory sticks.

Thanks so much! I should've done my research. I will be getting 2 more sticks and hopefully I can see a decent change in performance
