Hi,
I'm quite software illiterate so bear with me. I'm trying to record my laptop's webcam. I have two issues, file size and another is the black parts around my webcam and I'll explain both below:
In the "scenes", I have added a scene, and in the "sources", I have added "video capture device."
When I click on the properties of that video capture device, it's my "integrated webcam". Below it says "deactivate" when my webcam is activated, so that's fine, then below it has configure video button and finally a configure crossbar (which does not seem to do anything no matter how often I click it.)
Now here is where I made some changes: In the resolution FPS type, I clicked custom, because the "device default" resulted in a big black area around my webcam's output and even when I stretched out the red lines around it, as shown below, it did not fill out; nor could I figure out how crop out the black part, so it won't get recorded and add to file size.
The black parts did mostly disappear when I chose 1280x720 (other resolutions gave me no picture, just black, so choice was default or 1280x720)
Anyhow, so back to the size thing, so I figured if I lower the resolution, it will be a small size but my webcam's original resolution (the device default one) was probably 640x480, which is half the 1280x720 but it barely made any difference when I recorded using either. I also lowered FPS as low as 10 and then later 5, and it barely made a difference in the file size, just made the picture and sound delay and choppy. For instance, two minute self recording was about 45mb with 30 FPS, and after using 5FPS and lower resolution, is was 39mb.
Other settings I had changed were ones on the very first screen, like when I open the software, where there is "start streaming" and "start recording buttons". There, I clicked on "settings", and then on "video" to the left. This got a little confusing because I made changes to the resolution and nothing seemed to happen. There was another FPS button there so I decided to lower this one also to 5. But like before, this did not make much of a difference.
I want to use my laptop's webcam for security purposes temporarily, and quality is not important, but as long as it can see if animals or people or something are passing by. And given that I have limited space, I want each hour's recording to be under 500mb.
I would much appreciate your help on settings need to lower the output size and also if you know, how to crop out the black parts when webcam size does not fit the screen size.
