What kind of PC specs do i need to record in 4k?

Hello everyone!

It's my first time here. Whenever i needed help i asked ChatGPT. He told me my PC was able to record in 4k 60 FPS. But whenever i try to do so my recordings skip a lot of frames. I just wanted to ask if its even possible for me to record in 4k or if i shouldnt try at all. I saw in the log files that my GPU is at 96%. Is that the reason?

Here are my log files:

Here is a quick video to show how it looks like:

Those are my PC specs:

CPU: Intel Core i9 10900K @ 3.70GHz
RAM: 128GB Dual-Channel DDR4 3600 MHZ
Motherboard: MPG Z490 GAMING CARBON WIFI (MS-7C73) (U3E1)
GPU: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090
Storage: 3726GB Seagate ST4000DM004-2CV104 (SATA ) 1863GB Samsung
3726GB Samsung SSD 870 QVO 4TB (SATA (SSD)) <--------- Here is the recording output
SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB (Unknown (SSD)) 1863GB Samsung <-------- here is OBS installed (NVME SSD)
SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB (Unknown (SSD))
System: Windows 10

A quick answer if recording in 4k is even possible would be enough. Thanks

If you're going to record 4k, use a 4k source. Don't upscale.

Change the Color Range Partial

Try these to start:

22:23:07.338: [jim-nvenc: 'advanced_video_recording'] settings:
22:23:07.338: codec: HEVC
22:23:07.338: rate_control: CQP
22:23:07.338: bitrate: 0
22:23:07.338: cqp: 18 adjust as needed
22:23:07.338: keyint: 2 Seconds
22:23:07.338: preset: p5
22:23:07.338: tuning: hq
22:23:07.338: multipass: qres
22:23:07.338: profile: main
22:23:07.338: width: 3840
22:23:07.338: height: 2160
22:23:07.338: b-frames: 0
22:23:07.338: lookahead: false
22:23:07.338: psycho_aq: false

A few Scenes have multiple Display/Game/Window captures that should be addressed, only (1) per Scene. There was also VST or 2 that didn't load/work, the rest of the log looks OK.

Woah bruv. It worked thanks!

It's really smooth now :D

I have the Video like this now. I only have a 1920x1080p screen. Thats why i had the normal at 1920x1080 and upscaled to 3840x2160.

Or do i need a 4k screen to also record in 4k?

But its really smooth now thanks bruv! :D <3

You can record 4k Media Sources but to do it right, yes.

I use a FitHeadlessGS as my 4k monitor. Works great but is HDMI so only 30Hz is exposed @ 4k, thanks to Nvidia.

Whenever i needed help i asked ChatGPT.
Ha! Good luck! Chatbots know nothing of their own, and that one is no exception. They just parrot what they find in their training data, with no real understanding whatsoever. Anything that does turn out to be true is more accident than anything else. This is often hidden by the conversational interface, to actually get YOU to come up with the correct answer by brute-force trial-and-error.

Case in point.

Exactly this can also be said about some answers in this forum. Although the training data of ChatGPT dates back to Sept 2021 and cannot know anything newer, ChatGPT gives surprisingly good, helpful and time saving answers. You have to verify it of course, and you have to have in mind the answers could be completely made up. However, I found extremely helpful answers, especially with technical questions I didn't know anything before. Asking ChatGPT first for help with OBS or with any other computer issue is a very good approach.
