What causes game capture video and audio to be out of sync?

I'm trying to figure out why the video and audio aren't synced when capturing game footage. The audio records half a second or a second before the video, for example when someone talks, the audio occurs before their lips move, etc. Could this purely be down to my laptop's specs? Or is there a way to sync them? See image attached
