Question / Help Weird Issue with Window Capture

Hello,

I've been using OBS and reflector to stream some gameplay of my iPad to my iMac. I'm having this weird issue that when I use display capture and put Reflector into full screen mode, the stream works perfectly fine. But, when I add a window capture of Reflector so I can make a more custom arrangement and not have the viewers see my desktop, the stream appears to be really choppy. It doesn't really seem like lag, as the game is playing fine and it streams fine using Display capture. I played around with the settings and tried lowering FPS, resolution, and bitstream, but it still appears to have this choppy stream. Is it just that the system resources are used differently when using window capture over display capture, or is there another setting I should be looking to make adjustments on?

Thanks so much for any advice,

Vincent

Window capture has much worse performance than Display capture on Mac. If you can get away with it, Display capture is much more recommended than Window capture.

If you want to capture just a game's window for example, best thing to use is syphon capture. It's basically game capture for mac. Very high performance.

I'm having this same issue where scrolling or turning in-game causes a huge amount of horizontal tearing and it seems extend to display capture (though in the latter it's not nearly as choppy). I'm using Videoglide to capture my sd capture card and I haven't had any luck with injecting the Videoglide Capture screen into my OBS scene.

Is there anything I could do to make game capture work with Videoglide or is Display Capture as good as it will get? I have no issues with tearing or lag when using Syphon to capture video sources.

If Syphon doesn't work on the program you're trying to capture, then display capture may be the only choice if performance is important. Window capture on mac just can't get the same performance. I realize it's not an ideal situation, but it may just be a limitation of the operating system (and/or hardware depending on your computer) at this point.
