I wasn't quite sure what to categorise this as, so apologies if I picked the wrong one. After finding that I needed to install the ffmpeg libraries when I noted that the download page had an error. I thought it indicated I didn't with my version of Ubuntu but after reading the install guide here I realised that it quotes that you need them with 14.04 and 14.10, but not with 14.04+. I'm assuming that it should read that you don't with 15.04+ :)

My son has been using OBS on Windows to record Minecraft and we are just switching across to Linux so the timing of the release of the Linux version (alpha or not) is ideal.

14.04/14.10: FFmpeg is required.
14.04+: You can install OBS with the following commands:

It means you have to install FFmpeg with 14.04 and 14.10 and the 14.04+ is the rest of the install instructions.

Ah, I see it now. Took me a couple of reads through before I noted that the first bit doesn't include the OBS install so it isn't an either or. My excuse is that I've been heavily into Apache configs, SSL certificates and the like which clearly sets your brain into a different mode of thinking :)
