webcam not showing up

so the box that you can edit (normally a red square that you can resize) isnt showing up, therefore my camera isnt showing. if i got to properties for the cam in sources, it shows my cam feed but again, nothing on the screen or stream. i had it working at one point, but idk what has happened. ive tried to google my problem, but all i get is the multi scenes problem, which isnt my problem because i have only 1 scene (deleted the rest to see if that was the problem). ive also reordered the sources, reinstalled OBS, unplug cam, and new drivers for cam.

i have had a similar issue when using a webcam,
not much help here but what has worked for me is going into the video capture settings, choose another source then switch it back to my webcam and it reconnects to it.
i also have the same issue with my sons action cam and this same method works with that as well.

i am running it on a laptop

I reinstalled Windows 11 and subsequently all the apps including OBS. Neither of the cameras was capturing video. After trying a dozen other fixes, this is all that was needed. Still going strong after a year.

So you're saying ALL I have to do to fix my webcam is simply reinstall my entire Operating System and every single app on my computer??
