Question / Help Webcam Not Opening Automatically

Again, this could be my unfamiliarity with OBS Studio. Now when I open OBS Studio (as opposed to OBS), the webcam won't show up automatically (despite the webcam light turning on immediately). I know there isn't really a problem, because once I go into the webcam settings it shows up right where it's supposed to be. I'd just rather have everything streamlined and working correctly so I don't have to take this extra step.

Is there a setting I'm missing? I've attached images of where the webcam would show up along with some of my current settings. Anyone else having a similar problem? The same behavior is present on all scenes.

Thanks in advance!

Just specified FPS at 30 and MJPG for Video Format. Closed OBS Studio then reopened. Still no webcam until I enter the settings.

I have this exact same problem every time I restart my PC. I'm using a Logitech C525. So I've resorted to rarely ever restarting. BTW, streamlined, I've realized, is not something you're ever going to achieve with this software. It's been constant fiddling for me for the last two weeks and frankly, I'm pretty tired of it. Considering giving up streaming entirely to just enjoy my games at peak performance.

Anyway, good luck.

  1. I420 at 320x240@30fps - does it works well for you?
  2. Do you have other cam software installed (like Logitech)?
  3. Is there any saving power options for this usb device?
(I have other cam and system and I have never seen such issue by myself)

Somewhere on the forum, OBS Studio crash after starting C920 video capture and OBS Studio crashes right at the start. was mentioned that developer has example of the device. So, most troubles with this hardware are tracked by himself. It is very little chance that he missing something.

Side thread but worth reading: Logitech c920 HD pro unable to use YUY2

I'm experiencing the same (or similar?) problem as the original poster, so I'll piggy-back on this thread before starting my own.

- My version of OBS Studio: 0.15.2 (64bit, windows).
- My webcam model: Logitech HD C310 - http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/hd-webcam-c310
- I have the basic driver for the webcam installed from Windows Update.

The problem:
1) After opening OBS, it will show a scene with a webcam source. The webcam source will not show at all on the preview screen.
2) I'll switch scenes back and forth - this does not fix the problem.
3) I'll right click the webcam source and select properties. This IMMEDIATELY fixes the problem. I can then click cancel, and all is well.
4) This behavior is exhibited every single time OBS is re-opened.

Seems to be a bug in OBS rather than some misconfiguration on my end?
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix?
