Question / Help Webcam capture flickering

Since upgrading to Mojave on my 2018 Mac book pro 15 inch I've been having issues with the video capture device portion. From time to time my stream will just start randomly flickering, even if not streaming and just testing in OBS. It's only OBS, I've opened my camera and tested it not using the app and I get no tearing/flickering. It's been happening the past month at least, very desperate and need help.

I've tried everything, do I literally just need to go buy a windows computer? It's getting frustrating that macs literally suck at everything.

Apple is in the process of deprecating the display technology that OBS depends on (OpenGL). I have no idea if this would affect a simple mechanism like a webcam at this point, and this is the only report of this I've seen so far, so I don't think that's relevant.

I have seen issues where cams in Mojave and upwards don't work at all until OBS gets permission on them, but that doesn't appear to be your issue, either.

If you're running OBS as a mission-critical application on MacOS I would strongly suggest not upgrading past High Sierra.

So how do I go back? Just restore my MacBook or would that even do it? Do I just go buy a windows desk top capable of running OBS? Apple products have gotten worse and worse the past two years. I need this for my job, what's the solution??

It pains me to say so, but if OBS is mission-critical for you then yes, you should be using a Windows machine, and one with an Nvidia card. (AMD cards also have a hardware encoder but in my limited experience it is harder to use, harder to troubleshoot, and does not perform as well.

OBS is currently more reliable, more performant, and more capable on either Windows or Linux than on MacOS, and the future of OBS on MacOS appears to me to be in serious question.

Just not having access to NVENC as a possible encoder is worth making the switch. I use OBS on all three platforms, but in the past few years I've moved from using it primarily on MacOS and secondarily on Windows to the other way around.
