Way to add timestamps for easy file cutting

Basically I'm looking for a way to create timestamps or something along that nature to a text file while I'm recording so when I'm playing with friends and something entertaining happens I can hit a hotkey and it saves a timestamp of whatever the recording time to said text file. I'm not sure if anything like this already exists maybe if it does could you point me to it please?
