Want to record off TV using obs

I have a hdmi video capture card and splitter although not sure how to use it.
Anyway I have it connected to the obs studio and half the time the picture is only a third of it on screen. The page is split into preview and program.
How do I get the right speed and picture to come up?

You posted to the wrong forum (this is for program development and features). There are operating system specific Windows, Mac, and Linux support forums at https://obsproject.com/forum/

Depending on where you are, copying TV shows may be a copyright/digital rights violation, and most folks here won't help with that
So, before posting to a support forum here, I recommend:
- verifying in your location that what you are asking is legal
- then research getting HDMI signal (which may be copy-protected from source, which intentionally prevents what you are trying to do) to a recording device (like your PC).
- I recommend getting audio & video to work OUTSIDE of OBS (OBS not even started) before getting into complexity of OBS. And unless dealing with compositing video (adding other sources, etc), OBS is complete overkill (there are other free, far less complex options)
