Question / Help VLC Source being resized

I’ve searched but cannot find a similar problem to mine.

I add a VLC source and the file is remote/URL, a Mixer.com m3u8.

I’ll position and resize it to my liking but randomly it will resize itself, smaller or larger. Sometimes it will revert to what I’ve set it to but most of the time I’ll step in and manually replace and resize it.

I’ve tried locking the source but it doesn’t help. I assume it has something to do with the source instead of OBS itself but I’d like to find a fix for this if possible. I have no issues when adding a VLC Source with a Twitch url as the file.

Add a scale/resize filter on your source. That locks in the dimensions.

Rescaling a source on the canvas will respect the proportions by which it was resized, meaning if the source changes resolution, that's going to be reflected on the canvas directly. Using the filter sets a hard dimension that the source must be resized to, at which point that can be further resized on the canvas (but because it's locked by the filter, it won't change).

This has helped me get part way - thanks, carmmii and eskaydub!

On a related note, if I'm building a random playlist, and the source videos are of varying dimensions, and I'd like to scale the output up to fit without changing the aspect ratio, which option if any, would I select? In a perfect world, all the items in the playlist would have consistent dimensions, but in this case they aren't.

The closest I can see right now is to apply scaling/aspect filter, set a specific resolution (base canvas in this case), and then tick "undistort center" which scales up vertical, and stretches the horizontal. If I wanted to leave 4:3 content in the list occupying say only center of screen without the stretch, but also support widescreen content, is there a way to do that?
