Virtual Camera blocking computer camera

I've seen this problem come up often, and whatever I did the first time the problem appeared (2022), it was ridiculously simple, but took a few weeks to find the solution. I thought it had something to do with starting the virtual camera, but that has no effect this time. Besides, I want my webcam working to use the webcam (duh!), not OBS. Basically, OBS has hijacked my webcam, and there doesn't seem to be a solution. Message threads warn against uninstalling/reinstalling camera drivers as the camera is totally lost on the uninstall. Same with uninstalling obs as the necessary code is not removed, leaving the user with no option to repair the problem. My webcam is there. When I did a system (windows 10) update, and some file cleanup, the problem seemed to resolve. Two days later it was back again. I hadn't used OBS (unopened program) at all in that time period, so something seems to be happening in the background. All settings are good for the webcam, and like I said, it was fine two days ago (problem seemed to disappeared on system update). The device manager shows the webcam, but with this message:
Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

Same message as prior to system update.

Obviously it's getting an incorrect signal. It seems to be coming from OBS.

Any ideas??
