Question / Help Virtual Audio Cable.

Is there anyone that can help me with this? I have used all the tutorials and nothing seems to help. I listen to game sound from my interface (focusrite 2i2) and record from that also. That's the only sound card I have installed and when trying to run everything through virtual audio cable it speeds up really really fast.

Is there anyone else out there that uses focusrite 2i2 for recording and listening to the game also??? I just can't figure out how to get this to go I tried everything

Speeding up or slowing down sound issues usually means the Sample Rate doesn't match the source

Make sure all your sources(IN and OUT on your interface) and VAC ins and outs have the same sample rate, 48000 Hz is recommended

Though I am unsure what you need VAC for in this case? Unless you are trying to route your MIC to a DAW, OBS will pick up your interface's IN and OUT without issue

Yea i'm trying to run compression and all that good stuff on it. Obs's noise gate is kinda meh. I'd like to run an eq on it also. I have all the sample rates matched up also and it still does it. I think because I have the interface on both lines for recording and playback it does that. Would you be able to help me set it up on teamspeak by any chance?

You can refer to my tutorial on Youtube where I use my Audio Interface, VB Audio Cable and Reaper to add a gate, compressor and limiter to my AT2020 and route it to OBS-MP.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwkrwPOGx9I

I prefer VB audio cable over VAC, mainly because it is free but also it's also newer. Reaper is also free even after the trial expires, just like WinRAR but a full license is only $60

I have changed my Gate and Compressor settings since making this video but the routing concept hasn't changed

Okay i'll try my question is tho I use the headphone jack on the focusrite 2i2 for audio and the focusrite for recording also. can I use the focusrite for playback and recording? Or do I have to use my onboard card for the playback? because i think that's why it's not working for some odd reason.

That's the same way I use my interface, headphones plugged in the front, XLR mic plugged into Input 1.

In voice/games/OBS I have the choice of using my raw mic from the interface or my VB cable if I have Reaper running. Default windows playback is the out of the interface, which is my headphones.

Okay let me try your tutorial. If I can't get it to work can you help? I'm pretty good with computers so I should be able to lol gonna try now

Okay got it to work, only question is, do I have to hear myself all the time? My voice is going through the desktop audio and now I'm going to have to figure out how to not have to hear my voice all the time. plus i'll have to adjust game volume all the tiem now

You shouldn't be hearing yourself except when you have In and Out set up as your interface in Reaper for the beginning part of the tutorial. You should be hearing yourself until you switch the Reaper Output Device to "Cable Input". You'll need to be able to hear yourself in order to set up the gate and compressor.

These images are for when you are done configuring the Gate and Compressor and are ready to route it to OBS

okay got it, now I can't hear myself when i put direct monitoring on in reaper lol

Yes when you first set up Reaper and arm the track you will be able to hear yourself, this is needed so you can config the VSTs. Once you change the Output Device from the OUT of your interface to CABLE Input you won't hear yourself.

Here are my final settings for the Gate and Compressor. Threshold setting obviously is unique to my setup. I was finding that my voice was too compressed and really quiet sounds were getting bumped up too much so I dialed back the ratio and also fine tuned the gate

I put the limiter on the Master Track

I got it all! thanks so much! cleaned up my audio so much! I gotta fiddle with the gate some it keeps cutting me off just a tad whenever I speak softer. But if I lower it too much it doesn't pick up the sounds, but this is awesome. Turned my quality up so much! much appreciated.

If you find it is cutting off too quickly it is either your hystersis being too small or hold time is too short. I didn't explain Hysteresis very well in the video.

If the gate opens at -55 dB for example, a hysteresis of -10 dB means it will close when the levels reach -65 dB or -10 dB below the open threshold. This stops it from fluttering open and close when you are speaking around the open threshold.

Attack and Release of course are Fade In time and Fade out Time. I use a short attack but a long release so even if I talk slowly and the gate closes it isn't a drastic drop out and pop back in

Virtual Audio Cable (ver. 4.xx) and VoiceAttack Solution
*This setup does not utilize VB-Audio, Voicemeeter or Banana etc., as they would be redundant programs and may cause looping.

A common problem I hear of from Virtual Audio Cable and VoiceAttack (a voice command program) users is that VoiceAttack is listening to my computer instead of just my microphone. This is what I came up with that worked for me. I hope it helps you to find a fix for whatever ails you.

1. Set your Muzychenko Virtual Audio Cable control panel for 2 lines. (Control panel not shown.)
2. Create 3 MME Audio Repeaters from your Virtual Audio Cable program folder.
(Select default sound card from drop downs. Device names may vary. Wave in/out line numbers should not need changing.)
3. Set your default media player audio output to line one. (VLC media player is shown below.)
4. Set VoiceAttack's "Override Default Playback Device" option to line one.
5. Select VoiceAttack's playback/recording devices options according to your systems default soundcard.
6. To send sounds into Discord, Zoom, a game, etc., set that programs microphone as line two.

That's it! Now you can send sounds to any individual VOIP software. I use different push-to-talk buttons depending on which program I want to send sounds into so people don't hear me giving a command to VoiceAttack before it plays a sound file.

Here is a link for microphone testing purposes. https://mictests.com/

Optional: Batch files can automatically configure and start MME repeaters for you. Feel free to download the three (.bat) files from this link but you will need to edit them with WordPad or Notepad to your specific file locations and input/output device names. Do not delete or add any of the 31 character spaces in quotes for device names! The file marked "3Repeaters.bat" is clickable and simply starts all 3 MME repeaters for you. Mine is in my Windows startup folder.

I love the way you explained the things here! Very impressive!
