Question / Help Viewers cannot hear Skype Guest on Facebook Live

Viewership of my weekly Facebook Live show is growing and I'd like to mix up the program by adding guests to the show.

I'm currently using OBS Studio to create a Scene where it features both my webcam and my guest's Skype video. Unfortunately, my guests audio cannot be heard by viewers while streaming.

I tested this in a private Facebook Group and even tested by just hitting the record button. For some reason the Skype audio doesn't get picked up by OBS.

Any input on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Stickied post.

You need some 3rd party software to create a virtual interface OBS can capture. SoundFlower, iShowU, Sound Siphon, LoopBack, Audio Hijack, or something similar.

You need to tell Skype to output to that virtual device, and then you need a method to forward that virtual device to your usual output device (headphones, for example). Some of the software above does that for you (LoopBack, Sound Siphon) others don't and for that you could use something like LineIn by Rogue Amoeba, which is free.

Thanks @Narcogen for the link to the stickied post, really appreciate your help.

I downloaded LoopBack by Rogue Amoeba as that was recommended by another friend but unfortunately, OBS was unable to capture the audio. On top of that, I wasn't able to hear my guest in y headphones.

Diving into LoopBack's resources was unhelpful too. Do you by any chance have insight on the step by step settings for LoopBack? I contacted their support team and haven't heard back.

In LoopBack, create a new device. The app should create at least one to start with and call it "LoopBack".

In LoopBack's main window, turn on "Monitor audio through" and choose the output device you are listening with, preferably headphones so the output will not interfere with your microphone.

In Skype, choose the LoopBack device for output.

In OBS, add the LoopBack device as an audio output source in your scene.

You should now be able to both record output from Skype in OBS and hear it.

In the OBS audio mixer, choose which tracks you want the LoopBack device to appear in (the default will be all) and in the Recording and Streaming settings areas, choose which tracks you want to record or stream. (You can record up to three tracks in mp4 or mkv containers, and I'd suggest mkv over mp4 as those files are recoverable even in the event of a program crash or a disk filling up while recording, which mp4 is not. FLV files cannot have multiple audio tracks.)

I usually record and stream simultaneously with three audio tracks: sound from a main application like a game, sound from a chat program like Skype or Mumble, and a hardware microphone. The fourth track contains all three audio sources and is used for streaming; tracks 1-3 are recorded in an mkv file. This method also allows you to separately modify your audio tracks in an editor if you so desire.

I'm having this same issue - and I've gotten into OBS to choose my Audio Output Capture Source - and there are NO options to choose. If I switch toe Audio Input Capture Source, Skype appears.

Not sure what to do - HELP!

Thanks :)

Any resolution to this?

I am in the same boat. We're doing a two-man show, I'm on Thunderbolt (JVC camera, XLR audio) and bringing in the co-host via Skype. I think I have my Skype audio settings correct (microphone>Thunderbolt, speakers>Loopback device) but when I'm in OBS and attempt to add a 'Audio Output Capture' there is nothing at all in the 'Device' dropdown; I assume this is where I would add 'Loopback device' and then I'm rocking n' rolling?

Help would be much appreciated.
