Videos won't save

So I've been trying to record with this app, and up until now it's been great! For some reason now, my videos won't save and I'm not sure why. I've uninstalled, then reinstalled. I've changed the location I want videos to save to. I've changed from an mp4 to an flv. Nothing works. I'd like to be able to save what I'm recording. The file does show sometimes, but it isn't like a video. It won't let me watch it, it takes me to a notepad app instead of the video watching app. I am not sure what the issue is, before this happened I didn't change any settings or anything, so I don't know why this is happening.

Follow the basic guidance to NOT record as MP4 (LOTS of explanations of why already posted, I won't bother repeating)
remux to MP4 in OBS if need be

Opening notepad...means a file association... has nothing to do with the content of the file.. seriously, a Windows OS 101 basic concept
Open viewing app, then open video file
and you need to understand that there are LOTS of video recording formats, encoders, settings, etc. and they are not interchangeable. So... you should (and in this case, haven't) considered the format supported by your viewer/editing application, and ensuring compatibility

Windows 10 Media Player can easily play a MKV file with the right decoder installed, or use VLC, or remux as noted above to MP4 for broader support.
