Video output is corrupted regardless of output format

Every time I try to capture a video recording using OBS Studio, the output is an mkv file that is 0 seconds long and won't play. There's no audio, or video. Here is the information I can provide

UPDATE:

  • Reinstalled OBS as system package from official apt repo, and installed all required and reccomended dependencies
    • No differece
  • Ran OBS as root
    • Works when installed from apt, still no difference
  • Attempted to record from just a static image source
    • No difference

The issue must be with generating the mkv file somewhere, but I don't know where. I have verified that I have ffmpeg installed, but still the error persists

Wow I feel stupid... Had a thought it might be the default media player. Installed VLC, it works flawlessly.
