Question / Help Video only playing in VLC

I recently bought a desktop computer to record gameplay. The desktop is nowhere near top of the line, but it was an upgrade from trying to record on my laptop. I seem to have found decent settings to record gameplay, but the resulting recordings will only play the video on VLC media player. I am recording in mkv and then remuxing to mp4. both the mkv and mp4 versions of the video play fine in the VLC player, but any other player; including, crucially, my video editing programs (Vegas 14 and Movie Edit Pro 14); will only play audio, and show a black screen for the video. Video rendered via these video editing software results in black screen with audio regardless of the player.

I have tried using VLC to do the remuxing and am getting the same result. I have tried running OBS as administrator, and as not administrator. I have tried several fixes on my video editing software, but the fact that video is not displaying on other video players makes me suspect the problem is not with my video editing software. I have used OBS's Auto-Configuration Wizard, only changing Output: Recording settings to mkv so I can record multiple audio tracks.

Video displays as it should in the OBS preview screen. I have tried both game recording and desktop recording with the same result. I will endeavor to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are my desktop specs and log files:

If the resulting file direct out of OBS plays fine in VLC, then the issue is most definitely with your editing software. Vegas is notorious for having extremely poor format support. I would recommend reaching out to their support for more assistance on what aspect of the files created by OBS it doesn't like.

I have found that if I use a third party video converter to convert to mp4 I can play the resulting videos on my video editing software, and on other video players aside from VLC. I am trying to find a video converter that will preserve my multiple audio tracks. If anyone has any recommendations I should be grateful.
